Although any of these engines may not be exactly (100%) the same as for your CRAFTSMAN YTS 4000's engine , we feel very confident and are doing our best from our many years of experience to show you the closest engines we have in stock that have some similar specifications as your original engine, such as crankshaft diameter and length and mounting bolt pattern that may work for your equipment. Your exact original engine may not be available because it may: be too old to be in production or discontinued due to some EPA regulations.

Our customers may had bought any of these engines from us and may had done some modifications to adapt to work with their equipment including, but not limited to: transferring the wire harnesses from their old engines to the new engines, tappering the mounting holes, drilling new mounting holes on mower's decks, cutting and welding mufflers, ...etc.

Our engines on this page have the following similarities. Choose the engine HP and the displacement (cc) accordingly to fit your needs:
    1. Bolt pattern - The mounting hole pattern are the same.
    2. The dimmension.
    3. Muffler configuration is the same (you can reuse your old muffler)
    4. Although spent a lot of time to carefully study about your engine, prepare, review, and compose this page to believe that your engine crankshaft size is 1" diameter x 3 5/32" length, it is still your responsibility to measure your engine crankshaft to double check if it is the same.

Other minor things that you may have to do when you buy the long block to replace your engine including but not limited to: transfer your wire harness from your old engine to the new one if it is not the same (most of these have similar wire harness though), tap/thread the mounting holes (as most of brand new engines did not have the mounting holes threaded/tapped by the manufacturer) etc..

Your engine choke may be (double check): CHOKE/THROTTLE COMBINED (Mower needs just 1 control cable to do both choke & throttle)

If after checking your engine/mower choke and the above is correct, your 1st option is to buy a CHOKE/THROTTLE COMBINED engine or 2nd option READY START engine.

If the 1st or 2nd engine option is not available here, you can buy a SEPARATE MANUAL CHOKE engine and a mower choke cable control (if you don't have one) that you will need to install to use it with the new engine on your mower.
